Learning is an essential part of growing up. It inspires curiosity and builds confidence, but when a child becomes ill or injured, their education is often the first thing to take a back seat.
Our Ronald McDonald House Learning Program takes a holistic approach to reconnecting children with their learning, by providing psychometric testing to truly understand the educational needs of a child, tailored one-on-one tutoring as well as assisting with allied health services to complement their studies.
“The support Ivy has received over the past 2 years has been incredible.
Ivy graduated from College and was awarded the top student for English and the top student for the Curtin University Ready Program.
The knowledge and guidance her tutor provided has been invaluable.” Mum, Olivia explains
We know navigating childhood illness or injury is a complex journey, one in which we are dedicated to supporting. So, when it comes to education, our support extends beyond just the child and their family to educators through our EDMed program.
Provided by our Ronald McDonald House Learning Program team, EDMed is designed for schools and pre-service teachers at universities. This free professional development opportunity helps teachers understand how to better cater for children with complex health needs.
“We address strategies to support the physical, social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of children with medical or mental illness, as well as on how to support their siblings and families.
This year alone, our team delivered 25 EDMed seminars, presenting to over 505 educators and tertiary education students.” Renae, Senior Education Advisor Ronald McDonald House WA explains
At Ronald McDonald House WA, we believe that all families should have access to the resources they need to ensure the best health outcomes for their child. And our Ronald McDonald House Learning Program is just another way we continue to support families throughout their child’s medical journey.
