Annette’s story

Tammi and Tyler’s story

Christmas is a time of celebrating, coming together with loved ones to share good food, good times and create memories that will last a lifetime. For Tammi and Tyler, the Christmas of 2021 was anything but that.

Kirsty’s story

Kirsty and her daughter Madi first came to Ronald McDonald House WA when at age 9, Madi was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Myeloid Leukaemia. Since then, they have spent over 283 nights at Ronald McDonald House WA.

Wheeler family story

In 2022, Rosie was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 5. Fast forward to 2024, the Wheelers' have called Ronald McDonald House WA their home-away-from-home for 560 nights (and counting).

Continuing care for Patrick

Once Patrick’s physical recovery was on track it was time to return to the farm and back to school. To help, Patrick accessed 40 hours of tutoring through the Ronald McDonald House Learning Program. It was through this program Patrick met Christine, a qualified teacher who would work one-on-one with him to help him catch up at school.

Volunteer Estell is a NICU Nurse

Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the local community and give back, but it also gives people the chance to kickstart their career. Did you know 95% of employers believe volunteering is a great way to gain real-world experience (i) and serves as an advantage in job interviews? That’s exactly why Estelle, paediatric nursing student, started volunteering at Ronald McDonald House WA.

We all know that education is vital for growing children, let's face it even as adults we never stop learning; but what happens to a child when almost every aspect of their lives including going to school are put on hold due to illness or injury?

A holiday to remember

For many of us family holidays are a given in our yearly calendar. Whether it’s a road trip to see friends, a lazy week or two by the beach or heading to the grandparent’s house with all of your cousins, there’s always an adventure on the cards. But for 75% of families with a ill or injured child, holidays are simply out of reach[i].

We are all conscious of how important it is to look after our mental and emotional wellbeing. You only need to scroll through your newsfeed to be bombarded with tips on meditation – motivation – exhalation. But did you know that volunteering has been found to improve self-assessed mental wellbeing, self-esteem, happiness, and satisfaction with life?[i]
