Our history

For over 50 years, Ronald McDonald House has proudly been caring for families so they can care for theirs. Since the doors of the first Ronald McDonald House opened, Ronald McDonald House has expanded the same mission around the world, providing essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families and promote healing when children need healthcare.

Local history

We support families across the state by helping them access medical care and resources. Since opening our first Ronald McDonald House in Subiaco in 1990, we’ve continued to expand our services, ensuring we can be there for more WA families when they need us most.

National history

In 1981 family charities were forever changed in Australia when the first Ronald McDonald House opened in NSW. Since then, we have grown our support nationally introducing the Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms, Ronald McDonald House Family Retreats, Ronald McDonald House Care Mobile and our Ronald McDonald House Learning Program

Global history

Our first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, PA, USA, in 1974, after recognizing the need for parents to stay close to their hospitalised child. As we opened more programs around the world, it became clear that caring for the family of an ill or injured child was as important as caring for the child
